Schiehallion from Meall a'Bharr, 3 kbWith its pastoral patchwork of woods and fields flanked by big green hills, Glen Lyon is a great place from which to start a walk. At over 30 miles it's often quoted as the longest glen in Scotland too, and if you've ever crawled at a snail's pace down the winding single track road and wondered why it's taking so long to get anywhere, then its grand scale won't be lost on you. Up on the hills there's easy-going striding on sheep-nibbled turf, and wide-ranging views across the central and southern Highlands. The individual summits may not be much to write home about in themselves, but done in a single loop these four neighbouring Munros make an enjoyable and fairly relaxed day out.

10.87 miles, 17.50 km, 1,334m ascent, 6 – 7 hours. Aberfeldy or Killin
