Got 2 x pairs of the Smartwool 'Expedition' socks last Summer. Super thick things (grey and red) with Merino. They seem to be the warmest socks on offer from Smartwool, as far as I can see on the website. I often find websites a bit unspecific though about the capabilities of their gear. These socks kept me warm on Mont Blanc, but I'd got the impression these would be ok for my Everest plans next year. Any thoughts? Anyone else use them? Thanks in advance...

In reply to Stani49: I used to use the Smartwool Mountaineering socks but now use Icebreaker Mountaineer Socks when really really cold, they are a bit thicker and a bit warmer than the Smartwool ones. But the difference between a new pair and one that has been used / washed a few times is even greater. More important is the boots, having sufficient wriggle room for your toes, keeping the inners warm etc.
