Well I WILL try to get there. Apart from being a genuinely nice guy Alan dedicated so much of his time to the BMC and to a fight to gain decent access rights as we moved towards CRoW, and working for the Scots access law. As well as writing one of the absolutely standard textbooks of the time which guided a lot of folks of a certain generation in not dying early!

We venerate the high grade climbers and remember them and their routes but tend to neglect the guys like Alan who did some outstanding stuff in the alps in the post war years and dedicated enormous amounts of time to our 'game'. As well being involved in a right high pressure job as well!
