Nicholas Rudd-Jones and
David Stewart have just published a new book, 'Pathways', which delves into the history behind Britain's historic footpaths, bridleways and byways, from pilgrimage routes to drovers' roads and smugglers' trails to packhorse routes. Here Nicholas explains what's particularly special about the pathways that criss cross our green and pleasant land.

Mabye we unconsciously recognise that it never stood in splendid isolation, but was linked into a network of paths, tracks and ways."
