Climbing Clubs are an integral part of our climbing in the UK and we would like more clubs to use UKClimbing to attract members and promote their meets.. We currently have 451 Climbing Clubs listed in our classified database, and I am certain that many of the members of these clubs are already users of UKClimbing.com.

To help with this we are going to offer each club a FREE Premier Classified Listings on the Classified section of the site - http://www.ukclimbing.com/listings/ . We will also make one profile from a senior club member into an enhanced profile so that the club web site appears with their posts on the forums. We have also set up a new events category for climbing club meets.

If you are interested in taking us up on this offer then please check if you club is listed on UKClimbing.com by searching for it on the listings page - http://www.ukclimbing.com/listings/

Email us and include the URL (eg. http://www.ukclimbing.com/listings/add.php?id=392 ) or the name of the club. Please also include your profile name, your connection with the club and the club's web site.

Here is the standard reply I am sending out to people who are contacting me.

If your Club Listing on our site is not yet 'claimed' then please follow these instructions before getting in touch.

______

The Classified system works on the basis that people involved with the listings actually maintain the data in the listing. In effect it is your data not ours, and UKC don't have the resources to keep it up to date. The system has been set up to make this as easy as possible for a single individual to maintain a listing but first the listing need to be 'claimed' by a resgistered user on UKClimbing. Once claimed, the listing can be updated at will by a single user without the updates needing to be approved by UKC.

Premier Classifieds
For the Climbing Club listings we are now offering a free upgrade to Premier Listing status which gives extra exposure across the site, appearing in articles and as adverts in places where appropriate. It also enables you to upload a photo and will always be returned in a prominent position when users do seraches on the Classified System.
More information on Premier Classifieds here - http://www.ukclimbing.com/listings/premier.html

We are only able to upgrade club listings to Premier Classifieds where the listing has been 'claimed'.

How to Claim a Classified
1) If you are the person who wants to take responsibility for a certain club listing then make sure you are logged onto UKClimbing.com. If you are not the person then please contact them and point them at this information.
2) Once logged on, go to the individual page for the Classified Listing that you wish to claim. You can locate this using the 'Search by Name' box on this page - http://www.ukclimbing.com/listings/ . This search returns a page which may have one or more small listings boxes at the base of the page - click on the name of your Listing.
3) Once on the Classified Page listing, 'Update this Listing' button below the map, or on the right if there is no map. This takes you to a new page with two select boxes at the top.
4) To claim the listing, select the option 'Yes, I'm employed or involved with this Classified' then click the 'Send this update to UKClimbing' button at the base of the listing. While you are on this page you can also update any information if you wish, and add your club to the map.
5) Once we have confirmed this update you will then be the sole moderator of the Listing and you will be able to update, amend and change the details at will (as long as you are logged in to UKClimbing).

Enhanced Profiles
Once the Premier Classified has been set up, 'claimed' by a single profile, we can then turn that profile into an enhanced profile containing the Club's web site address. We wil do this automatically after establishing the Premier Classified but please let us know what profile name you would like. We do ask that the profile name includes some mention of the Club eg. Joe Bloggs (SUMC)
Slight hic-up in the system. A few people submitted updates and claimed club listings today, these have now been approved. However I missed the opportunity to upgrade some of them to Premier Classifieds.

If you submitted an update today, and have NOT had any email contact with me, then can you just drop me an email with your club name saying that you have claimed it. I think there are about 5.

The ones I have approved already and uprgaded, should now appear on this page http://www.ukclimbing.com/listings/

Thanks

Alan

How about extending this to climbing wall managers? they also contribute a great deal to the climbing scene these days.

I'm having the same problem as Nicholas, just to let you guys know!

There has been really good take up on this offer but very few of the people who contacted me have started using the Events Diary to publicise their meets.

You can upload your meets here - http://www.ukclimbing.com/news/sendevent.html

These will then be displayed here - http://www.ukclimbing.com/news/events.html - and in the UKC Newsletter, and on the UKC home page when they are due.

Cheers

In reply to Alan James - UKC: We have quite a lot of meets. Is there any way to upload events using a spreadsheet? Would make it easier!

Not at the moment and unlikely to be added unless more clubs start using the system - now there's a chicken and egg situation!

You can upload events with just subtle changes in them by using the Back button on most browsers and then editing the form again to submit a new event. So, for example, upload all your North Wales Meets just editing the dates, then do your Peak Meets, etc.

In reply to Alan James - UKC:

I've just had a go at doing this for Kendal MC (under that profile). However, using the back button to submit a new event meant that I kept forgetting to change details.

Since I can't view or edit the events now, I can't help thinking it's going to be a bit of a pain for someone to edit them all further down the line!

I only read the bit that said that events had to be edited by a News Editor after I'd submitted several messed up versions with a view to changing them myself later!

thanks

I have found them all and there is a bit of conflicting info. You can search here - http://www.ukclimbing.com/news/events.html - most of the ones with the little dark blue bunch of people icon are yours. Just email me with the correct versions and I'll sort them.

It is a bit of a pain. The system was not designed for bulk uploads really and hasn't given us problems in the past, however Club Meets lists could be different.

Cheers

Alan
