In reply to Mick Ryan - UKClimbing.com: A big thank you to all involved in securing this important crag for future climbers. I can't think of a more important and worthwhile way for the BMC to spend their money. Well done.

topo here: http://members.lycos.co.uk/southlancsbouldering/craigylongridge.pdf

> It is a very popular bouldering crag with over 100 problems ranging from V0 to V11.

That's out of date (as is the topo). V12 is the current top grade, with a harder link apparently still to be done. Video of Super Submarine here:

Christ on a bike. Finally! 3 years+ after handing over money.....Glad its sorted now whatever the reason for the delay.

I've not been yet due to aforementioned access. However believe there is an area which has been dug out making certain problems much more serious in nature.
Is it likely the previous state will be restored now the bmc own it?

Cheers
Tim

In reply to tbertenshaw: I think some of the problems would be considerably different now! I for one would like to see these backfilled to their original state.

Excellent decision by the BMC - this is what we pay our membership for - a proactive support and protection of local resources - if you needed an advert to join the BMC this is it - get your membership sent off! Well done to those involved.

Andrew Gridley did indeed discover CYL, and was responsible for the first wave of development of the crag.

However, before it was discovered, it was actually much bigger, and (IIRC) the meadow below the crag is actually infil from the cuttings that made way for the motorway when that was built.

Does anyone actually remember the crag back then?

By the way, thanks to the BMC team for their hard work here, including Pete Black.

Nice one the BMC - and I'll echo the sentiments re: good use of my membership fee.

I might give this bouldering gig a proper go now.
In reply to Mick Ryan - UKClimbing.com:

In reply to Mick Ryan - UKClimbing.com: Very well done the BMC folk.

BMC news report:

Craig y Longridge may not be known by all, but it has long been the secret of that famous Lancashire strength. A gritstone outcrop, over one hundred metres long, overhanging by twenty degrees, and never reaching more than four metres in height, it is the perfect bouldering and training venue. Throughout the years, the great and the good of the Lancashire climbing scene have developed their Blackburn-sized biceps and Clitheroe-shaped crimp strength, producing some of Britain’s climbing greats, including Dave ‘Raindogs’ Kenyon, Mark ‘Cry Freedom’ Leach and Ian ‘European Champion 1998’ Vickers.
