The BBC are reporting the death (aged 99) of Joachim Ronnenberg.
In March 1943, Ronnenberg and a group of companions blew up the Norsk Hydro heavy water plant at Vermork in Telemark, Norway. Ronnenberg and 4 companions made their escape across Telemark by ski to the Swedish border - a distance of over 200 miles.
The raid was then the subject of the film "The Heroes of Telemark" starring Kirk Douglas.
The escape has to be one of the great ski adventures!
