Can't be too much help I'm afraid - I'd never heard of it but it's fairly close (as the crow flies at least) to where I live, but not close enough by road to be of much help to you with accommodation problems.
I'd suggest looking in La Mure as its sizeable enough and close enough but guess we're quite late now, but you'll probably need to rent a car to make things easier, although getting to the start line on foot might not be too bad - could be an easy warmup hike.
I'm running a larger race around Lac Monteynard-Avigonet in that area in July - its a lovely spot and I hope you get time to explore too. Good luck with the race and let us know how you get on.
