I will follow his progress.

Does unsupported mean buying nothing from shops and wild camping/bivvying?

In reply to lowersharpnose:

Yeah he can only get water from natural sources, and then carry everything else. Stopping at shops etc would be classed as self supported, and obviously anything given personally, pacers etc is supported.

Can you use food from natural sources, eg wild berries ?

Sounds like a bit of a loophole. I would like to say yes, but others would certainly love to enter an ethics debate about it!

Attempt abandoned at Cononley, 'unsolvable issues'.

Perhaps he was trying to find the general solution to a quintic equation.

Sounds more like he found the solution to the halting problem.

Unfortunately the decision to stop was made this morning. He was moving really well yesterday morning then from midday onwards he had really bad abdominal pain and couldn't keep any water or food down. Pushed through into the afternoon and early evening and stayed out overnight but still throwing up this morning so made the tough decision to stop the attempt. Obviosuly early days but he hopeful to try again at some point! We suspect it was some dodgy bog/stream water that caused the issue but not completely sure (he was filtering/using tabs so a little frustrating to say the least!).
