Hi,

hope you all had a fab time in the unbelievable conditions (featuring snow!).

We had a great time but posted a disappointing result on medium score. Rubbish first day but clawed back 50 places on Sunday so a little bit of respect back.

we also had an exciting stove failure - luckily someone super kind lent us their burner so we could eat and have a brew. If this was you, you are class.

cheers, BB

Well done, bouldery bits. Yep, it's been a bit wintery in the BBs this weekend!

Two of our SARDA South Wales handlers came 14th in the Vets short score, so we're chuffed for them

Great fun and was glad of the cloud-up, nav-lite conditions for sure! Managed to get up to 14th after the first day (medium score) but made a bad decision and missed a checkpoint yesterday which cost us 60 points and dropped us down to 22nd overall (otherwise would have held our place).

Pretty happy overall though - first OMM and first kind of mountain running in about 13 months - and the first ever fell race for my pal.

In reply to bouldery bits:

Naively entered A course as a first timer with no fell-running experience - bit of an education I think it's fair to say!

Scraped in 42nd on the first day but realised we weren't going to make the overall cut off on the second so skipped a couple of checkpoints to get back before the finish was packed up. In retrospect a shorter or score course would have been a better choice.

Very pleased to have completed the distance we did and have a lot more respect for the difficulty of the whole venture - can't imagine we'd have made the day 1 cut in poor visibility.

Respect to the folks managing to actually run large sections of it!

Managed a podium finish on Long Score as 2nd mixed team, which was a surprise as the conditions didn't favour us (too much running and not enough nav!). Great fun, and a new area to us - much too nice for an OMM, even the tussocks were quite benign.

We did terribly! We did medium score,  it was the first time we'd done a score course... Completely over estimated how much distance we could do and ended up with minus points after day one (we didn't even realise you get points deducted for being late, we just assumed we were disqualified, so gave up trying!). We battled on though, having to try and dig ourselves out of a massive mental rut, in head-on snow, and managed to finally get back to the overnight camp with smiles on our faces, which was quite an achievement in itself!

Day 2 was much better, the aim was to finish with positive points, which we easily did. All in all, a massive learning experience,  a great weekend, and an addiction started!

You must have been just in front of us after the first day and a long way after the second! We did similar, massively underestimated the distance to the day one finish after starting off okay and ended up coming in just under 3 hours late on the medium score comfortably into the negatives.

Second day the goal was to get into the positives and still have enough energy for the drive back, which we just managed.

All in all great fun for a first mountain marathon, though the great viability did mean the nav was relatively easy.
