Garmin instinct solar tech question

I have a garmin instinct solar as a running watch, and it performs well in that function.

However if I use it while climbing (particularly soloing etc where I like to measure my effort and altitude gained over the day), I’d like to take it off my wrist and carry it in a pocket in case I want to hand jam.

unfortunately when I do this it’s tries to stop recording as it can no longer read my heart rate. Is there a way to turn this annoying feature off?

thanks in advance

Can you just set up an activity profile that has HR recording disabled and use that? Presumably then it won’t know whether you are wearing it or not. I’m pretty sure I can do that on my forerunner

I put mine around an ankle - keeps it happy...

Thanks for this Stuart. Didn’t know you could do that, but set it up today and that seems to work perfectly

Or wear a chest HR strap if you still want the HR data

In reply to RM199:

No worries, glad that worked

Didn’t know that exists either. Even simpler that way! Thanks
