In lockdown I've been dreaming up ideas for novel runs around the Scottish hills.

An idea came to mind to run to all the Lochan Uaine's in the northern Cairngorms and to break up the run by swimming in each. At present I'm aware of 4 such lochan's

1) the most well know one near glenmore

2) the one underneath the angels peak

3) the one on the east side of Ben Macdui

4) the one of the east side of Derry Cairngorm.

Now, that's all well and good but my dad informs me that he thinks there's 5 such lochan's, but I can't for the life of me figure out where the final one is. Is there indeed a 5th lochan (or loch!) Uaine in the northern Cairngorms and if yes, where is it? Or alternatively is my dad's information fake news?

Cheers for any help - stay safe!

There's a trail running Scotland Facebook group. I believe the guy who runs it is Cairngorms based. Might be worth an ask on there?

Sounds like a fun aim 😊

Have you looked in the Cairngorms volume in the SMC district guides ? My copy is in storage but I think the index is fairly good.

In reply to CaelanB:

Grough maps lists 9 of them in total with some out of the Cairngorms in more lowland settings.
