I can't watch fully now but it looked like he had a pad and a spotter. Hardly a solo then.

I’ve watched now. Yeah, spotters with paddles appear to be more of a liability than a benefit. At least Alex Honnold didn’t have to worry about impalement on sub-surface rusty bike forks. Fair play to Robbie for taking the plunge for the fans.
