 Pay Attention 16 Nov 2019

Interesting article by Zoe Williams in today's Guardian about climbing.

It starts with bouldering, mentions a one day course in indoor climbing, references buddy checks, and finishes with the aspiration to higher things : climbing an actual mountain.

Unfortunately the illustrating picture shows she's got her DMM harness on wrong way round.

"Sessions start with the harness, two hoops that go round each thigh as if in answer to the problem: “My legs don’t look enough like sausages.” There’s a lot of emphasis on getting this right, and climbers constantly inspect each other’s attachments as if they are very advanced chimpanzees."

Oh dear. All that wasted emphasis.

I suspect it looked better back to front in the photo.

Some great comments in the discussion thread on that Guardian website.

Rather a crappy piece of writing I thought.

Also it has a bit of "climbing as a fashion statement" ring to it.
