Anyone know the midge situation? esp around Loch Lomond?

I fear it is probably rather early due to warm spring but it would be nice to know if it's time for extreme precautions yet!

I've not seen any but word is they're out.

In reply to duchessofmalfi:

They've started but are currently not at insufferable levels. Give it a week though I reckon...

I can confirm that they're swarming and biting in the woods above Balmaha and round the back of Ben Venue.

We saw none last week in the Trossachs but it was sunny and breezy. Might have been some around if it had been dull and windless.

A pretty accurate representation of the current situation: https://www.smidgeup.com/midge-forecast/

That looks pretty accurate. Got bitten last week in the Monadhliaths and there were quite a few in Rothiemurchus. They weren't too bad though.

Ouch. That smarts.

I'd say a bit higher around Glencoe. We live in Ballachulish and on Sat/Sun they were a nightmare. Probably just the first wave coming because of the rain after the dry spell so may calm down a little.

A bit swarmy and annoying in Sligachan at the moment. Not great, but not awful.
