Hi. On holiday in Criccieth end of October.

Are there any easy single pitch sports or 'top-ropable' trad nearby? Sports up to 5+. Equivalent for TR trad. Going with my wife who's never climbed outdoors and will be nervous.

Tremadog upper tier, trad but very easy set ups. Nice and friendly outlook, lots of good severe-vs routes.

Good bouldering on the beach

Agree that Pant Ifan Upper Tier at Tremadog is probably your best bet. Decent anchors, short routes, and quite a few of them if happy top-roping S-VS. Can get a bit busy with groups is the only downside.

Your nearest sport climbing at that grade is probably the slate quarries in Dinorwic.

For easy sports climbs try the newly developed Craig Badychain near Blaenau Ffestiniog. Easy access, pleasant location, closely spaced bolts, route names and grades on slate plaques at the bottom of each climb, no need for a guide book.

It is good, but possibly not suitable for someone who is nervous, it's still a new crag and there is still some loose rock around.

What section? Does the rock above the water line or is it tidal?

In reply to Flinticus:

I can remember some boulders accessed from a sandy bay but it's a bit vague  Looking at the UKC map Its probably Black Rock Sands. The excellent traverse above the water bouldering I was thinking of may have been at Borth Y Gest, not Criccieth.

In reply to Tom Valentine:

There are rocky bits from the castle in Criccieth all the way along to porthmadog, the best bits for some low key bouldering are probably low tide on the west side of the castle, the west end of black rock sands (graig ddu, some easy slabs too) and small bits at borth y gest. Nothing of amazing quality, you are probably better just driving a little bit, Tremadog is only 10mins away.
