Hi

Taking our 7 and 4 year olds to Loch Rannoch in August. Are there any shortish, fairly easy access child friendly crags nearby?

Midges / rain expected, of course, but on the off-chance we can get out for a day it would be great!

cheers

Its some 30+ years ago but the University of Stirling used to have an outdoor centre there and developed a small crag not far from Kinloch Rannoch which I suspect was Craig Varr#maps. I only went there once and have no memories of the climbing itself suggesting it wasn't great. The grades look OK for kids but maybe someone who's been there recently will have a better idea of its suitability

Craig varr is ok, couple of nice slabby easy routes, pish gear on a lot of routes. It's on steep ground with thick undergrowth and a lot of bracken.

Craig na h-eighe just a wee bit down the A9 is very pleasant, more flat groud, easy access to top and bottom of crag and much easier for a picknick location. Belays can be a bit of a faff. Crag is mostly v steep, near vertical to overhanging.
