Hello everyone,

We are having our first meet this weekend (24-26 September) in the Peak District. Attendees will comprise mostly of experienced climbers, with only a small number of new members. We are planning to visit Stanage Edge on the Saturday and Burbage North on the Sunday. We will be climbing in groups of 4 and will try to spread out across the crag to avoid taking over certain areas or routes. We do not intend to set up any top ropes and all of our freshers will be wearing climbing shoes in order to limit damage to the rock. We will also emphasise to our new members the importance of good crag etiquette (clean rock shoes before climbing, leave no litter etc) and will minimise noise as best as possible.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and we will aim to keep disruption to a minimum. If you are at the crag and have any issues please seek one of our committee members and we will be more than happy to sort things out.

Many Thanks,
Iain (SUMC Meet Sec)

Blimey, years of UKC slagging off student meets has worked 😉

Hope you all have a great time, and someone gets introduced to an amazing activity that changes their life for the better.

As happened to me in Bath, 1997

Good effort. We spend a lot of time educating new climbers who learnt down the gym about the ethics and etiquette of outdoor climbing, so when it comes to this clubs are more important now than ever.

Doesn't sound like you're going to cause any more inconvenience or disruption than any of the other climbers out having a nice day at Burbage/Stanage. Have fun and good luck. Winds are a bit light on Saturday, but Sunday will be better.
