Hi,

I was just about to update my annual multi trip European rock climbing insurance with the BMC but it has increased by 20%.

Does anyone know of another insurer with equal cover and reliability at a reasonable cost? Thanks.

The only other UK equivalent i think is Snowcard, i dunno if they do annual cover, and last time I checked (a year ago) they were similar to BMC in terms of cost for single trips. Dog tag used to be a favourite but I seem to recall they dramatically changed what they covered making it effectively useless, I don't know if this is now sorted?

Cheaper options abound but not with the same levels of cover. AAC always seems to be a firm favourite, but it is a very different product to what the BMC offer.

I've just been looking at annual insurance with BMC as well. The premium I was quoted was £167 (max. 45 days for any single trip) which didn't seem too bad. Main issue I spotted is that Morocco isn't included.

Try Sports cover direct. Have to say that their European cover has increased this year.(don't mention the B word)

I have used a company called Voyager in the past, which was ok for most things, but ran out of cover if you were looking at anything of significant altitude.

It not just that it's also the fine print and the loss adjusters. If I'm paying for insurance for something serious and potentially highly expensive like bad luck in climbing I want to trust it. That means knowing about how you get treated by the insurance provider in such cases. The price you pay for the insurers proven to be trustworthy in adventure sport are all competitive..... beware of any cheap imitations. The BMC and AAC (with additional top-up) have the extra benefit of any surplus income going to a worthy cause.

I've used TrueTraveller when I need single trip insurance. Their pack seems to cover sporting at the base level and it's far cheaper than the other specialist providers. They also actually cover grade 5 white water - as opposed to grade 5 flat water which some insurance quotes!

Otherwise AAC for anything more extreme. Though I think it makes life much more complex when you have multiple policies covering the same thing, thankfully I've yet to find out.

Thanks for all the replies, I’ll check out some of the suggestions, the AAC sound interesting.
