I am staying in Boot in the Eskdale area of the Lake District in August.

It’s mostly a walking weekend but we were hoping to get to a couple of crags in the evening so something roadside or with a short walk in would be ideal.

We were looking for a crag with mostly easy grades on as we will have a few newbies joining us.

Does anyone have some suggestions?

Hare Crags

And Goats Crag

There are some good easy granite slabs dotted about the hillside.

Lots of good bouldering in the area if it's not too hot also.

Eskdale Fisherground

Next to this area is a short wall with a few bolts on top for setting up top ropes so you could combine some bouldering eith some easy roped climbing.

Second Pete's suggestions above and add Linbeck/ Brantrake; again less than ten minutes from the road, single pitch, full evening sun and well suited to what sound like your needs. Only problem with any of these (all of them?) is the bracken on the approaches, but don't let it put you off. There are some beaten paths, but they can take a bit of finding. Linbeck is probably the cleanest approach at the moment. They are all lovely places for a mellow evening, John.
