In reply to mike lawrence?: If you camp and climb up high you’re unlikely to suffer too much with the midges in the Lake District and with clear skies they should only be active for a few hours at dawn and dusk when you’re likely to be in your tent.
They’re more likely to be an issue if you were in a forested valley like Ennerdale that loses the sun earlier and is more sheltered from any breeze. Note that there has been a reasonable sea breeze on western fells recently on afternoons and evenings that often doesn’t show in the forecast.
