With the weather this weekend looking less-than-ideal for grit bouldering, can anyone recommend some sport/boulder crags on the cooler side within a 3~ hour drive of Leeds? 

Not massively familiar with crags outside of Yorkshire & the SE Lakes. All that I've managed to come up with so far is Earl Crag, Carrock Fell & Chee dale.

Generally speaking Lime bouldering is a bit underdeveloped so relying on websites like unknownstones. For sport routes just look at the guidebook.

Fairy Steps is in woodland and so will be mostly shady and cool

Watch out for ticks if you go there.

Check the access, I think there's a problem now. 

Is this something new or just the longer term issue with Dallam Tower estate? I've not climbed on the Steps in years but thought access was OK at least on the Upper Tier? I've walked past lots of times in recent years and never seen any access problem.

To the OP: Woodwell nearby is similarly shaded

Dunno, second hand info. Definitely worth checking. 

I was there a couple of weekends ago and experienced no issues. Few people out climbing on the upper tier, lots of walkers, no problems. 

Depends on what grade you're after, and not sure I'd drive 2-3 hours for the privilege, but... 

• Harpur Hill Quarry faces most northerly directions
• Smalldale Quarry is in the shade till the evening. Some nice wall climbs
• Chee Dale Lower obviously but likely to be busy.

Trow Gill Shady and sunny options.

Carrock Fell is a friction dependent venue best in the winter...?

I've been at Crag Willas today, it was catching a good breeze and apparently often does. Some problems/routes in shade until middayish too. Not masses of hard stuff to go at there but a lovely spot. Also went to Water Crag a few days ago, similarly high and exposed.

Edit: I'll add that neither of those venues was in prime nick but we're at least bearable given the temperatures!

Ill probably get laughed at for even suggesting this but as much as malham cove is a  massive suntrap it can be quite pleasant from 2.30pm on especially the route on the left hand side.
