I have about a 63 cm head circumference. I'd like to get a good helmet that won't break the bank. Any suggestions?

Is your bonce round or oval? I'm 63cm oval and find Petzl Boreo and Grvel Salamander fit well (The Grivel Stealth doesn't!)

Is there not a standard (e.g. CE) specification for protection like there is with cycle helmets, so what you pay extra for is lightness, ventilation, style etc?

My head is 61cm and I fit in a Black Diamond Half Dome but I don't know if it'd stretch to 63.  Probably worth going to a shop and trying them on once they're open again.

Why? Let's assume the OP isn't a complete dipstick, and picks only helmets that are CE marked from a reputable company, why spend more than you have to?

A colander maybe. Great ventilation, cheap and you can use it back at the tent to drain your pasta!

Surely a CE helmet that fits is the only criteria to go by, would you really try and save a tenner for an inferior fit.

The Petzl Boreo is great. Light, comfortable, protection from side impacts, and reassuringly rugged.

I think that's what he's after?

I was assuming that he would find >1 CE marked helmet that would fit.

In reply to dan gibson:

CE marked helmets range in price from less than £40 to well over £150.

Same problem.  I tried every helmet on the planet and only one fit that was comfortable...

Grivel Salamander XL.

The XL is meant for wearing over hats etc, but also works for big heads.  Pity it doesn't come in my favourite yellow, just boring grey, but I'll take what I can get.

The Grivel Salamander is quite large and fits a wide head (and comes in a fetching bright yellow colour)

My brothers head is hugemongus and I bought him a Simond (decathlon) helmet for Christmas last year for £20. Seems do the trick.
