Hello!
we have never been to Cornwall before and are quite new to trad climbing. Wondering what are the most friendly/easy access for top rope climbing venues in the area. We will be based in Launceston

any advice would be much appreciated.
thanks,

katharine

Your best bet is granite climbing. Close to launceston Its quite easy to set up top ropes on the most popular walls at cheesewring quarry, and many of the other bodmin tors.

West penwith granite is much better quality. The best crag for top roping is definately trewavas head Trewavas. St loy and halldrine cove are decent. Also some routes at sennen or bosigran but a little more difficult access.

Or, just go to dartmoor which is closer. Sheeps tor.

If you're looking to avoid granite, zennor head has easy access etc and half a dozen good killas slate routes

Would second Sheepstor, probably about 40min from Launceston, the classic easy trad venue on Dartmoor. Probably your closest higher density of easy climbing compared to other venues in north Cornwall I reckon. Enjoy!

Also Hawk's Tor, near North Hill on the eastern edge of Bodmin moor, not too far from Launceston. Short routes, easy to set up a top rope.
