Does anyone recognise this crag or route?

The crag is described as being near Rudyard Lake which puts it in Staffordshire, but there is only one crag near there with a couple of routes from 2003, according to UKC .

I'm thinking the Roaches, but I don't recognise it...

Agree it is the Arete at Hen Cloud. A very fine VDiff with more exposure than is usually encountered at that grade.

Photos on UKC logbook show similar photo.

I wonder what kind of belay those happy climbers had in 1949? Perhaps the 'thrills of rock-climbing' included 'hoping that the leader didn't fall and pull us all off the arête'....

My mates dad fell off that very move when part of the hold broke, probably about the time this pic was taken. Decked out with many fractures.
