Climbing entirely inspired by the Rocky films I - VI i.e. no technique just warring ability... alas like Balboa says, 'it's not how hard you can hit, it's how hard you can get hit and still keep moving forward.' In my element struggling up trad chimney routes, not overly happy on or keen on slabs. Climbed all the routes in Ken Wilson's Classic Rock with girlfriend, all of which were unforgettable experiences. Co-author, with girlfriend, of Europe's High Points: Reaching the Summit of Every Country in Europe (Cicerone), Walking in the Auvergne (Cicerone) and Outdoors Adventures with Children: Lake District (Cicerone). Co-updater of Steve Ashton's classic Scrambles in Snowdonia (Cicerone, 2017). Co-author and route-checker of Hawkcliffe Crag chapter for Yorkshire Grit vol. 2. Don't really go to climbing walls and barely tolerate the tedious nature of bouldering. Love long traditional routes with their epic struggles, history, aura and views. Also partial to esoterica. Fully respect all climbing grades. Happiest sharing stances with the wise old men and women of the hills and learning from their climbing stories about the days of yore. Love climbing, makes you feel... well, alive and stuff, dunnit?
