Vertebrate Publishing is an award-winning independent publisher and the UK’s leading publisher of outdoor adventure books and guides. We publish books to inspire adventure, and it’s our rule that we only publish books that we want to read or use ourselves.
We are looking for an experienced sales manager who is equally keen on the outdoors and books and guides to join our growing team and ensure the book trade is fully informed about our new and existing titles.
The successful candidate will be thoroughly organised, persistent and enthusiastic, and comfortable working with both data and people. This role will necessitate a lot of travel within the UK for which a car will be provided.
Responsibilities will include:
preparation of sales action plans
showcasing our new and existing titles to the book and outdoor trade, via direct representation, email and phone contact
supporting the sales activity of our distributor Cordee
organising and supporting author events and managing our ‘mobile’ bookshop.
With natural enthusiasm and an aptitude for developing customer relationships, our ideal sales manager will have the following skills and experience:
a proven record in sales
a professional manner and a flair for developing customer-based relationships
accurate database management
knowledge of the book and/or outdoor trade.
In addition, the successful candidate will:
be driven and results-oriented with a positive outlook and a clear focus on customer service and business profit
have an interest in outdoor activities (advantageous but not essential)
have a history within the book trade (advantageous but not essential)
have a positive, friendly and professional attitude.
Salary and bonus based on experience.
Contract: permanent upon successful completion of a probationary period.
