We're looking to welcome a Climbing instructor to the Ice Factor Team on a full-time basis.

Title: Climbing instructor

  • Full time
  • Seasonal or permanent positions available
  • Local accommodation available if needed
  • Competitive salary

About you...

You will be highly enthusiastic, with a good instructor ‘tool kit’ able to instruct a wide variety of clients from entry level through to intermediate user. The role requires high degrees of wall supervision, floor walking, equipment checking and wall maintenance.

About the role...

Ice Factor offers both indoor and outdoor courses in which all Ice Factor instructors are involved in.

Where possible we will assist with time off/transport for getting log book hours, crag time and multi-pitch days. During our busy winter guiding season, there is normally the opportunity for getting out on the skills courses and winter mountaineering courses.

Preference is for SPA qualified candidates with ML (W) Training / Assessment. CWA with a winter climbing pedigree will be considered.

Your ambitions in the industry will be supported by us, the National Ice Climbing Centre and Regional Centre of Excellence for the Mountaineering Council. We take enormous pride in the number of former team members who have advanced through the MLTB/AMI and Guide’s Scheme.

Working for Ice Factor...

Ice Factor is based in Kinlochleven, just outside of Glencoe, Scotland. We are proud to be the National Ice Climbing centre and the top visitor attraction in the West Highlands. Over the past 15 years Ice Factor has been the catalyst for taking a number of exceptional individuals, with a passion for the outdoors and providing the right environment to allow them to progress into the world of the mountaineering professional.

A number of our former staff have progressed from Climbing Wall Award (CWA) to Single Pitch Award (SPA), through the Mountain Leader (ML) syllabus and onto the Mountaineering Instructor Awards (MIA).

More about the role...

Trainee instructors will spend the first month shadowing fellow instructors. Throughout the centre, management will aim to provide you with the core skills for running sessions. There is an increasing level of responsibility as key milestones and internal training requirements are passed, culminating in you running your own sessions with clients. For those climbering instructors who are less familiar with Ice climbing, full training will be provided.

The role is not just confined to instruction, Ice Factor is also home to a cafe, bar-bistro and outdoor gear shop. All members of the team will be rotated around the various departments to the point where you can comfortably assist in any area of the facility.
