Honouring the life of the great mountaineer and humanitarian who inspired many people across the world, is a special event at the historical Royal Geographical Society in London.
Participants on stage will be Stephen Venables and Leo Houlding, sitting alongside Doug Scott's friends and team members from the 1975 Everest expedition, Sir Chris Bonington and Paul ‘Tut’ Braithwaite. Completing the line-up is Dr Rob Lorge, a Trustee of Community Action Nepal, and longtime friend. There will also be filmed messages from Reinhold Messner, Conrad Anker and other friends from around the world. The evening will be led by author and broadcaster, Julie Summers.
Join us as we celebrate Doug’s achievements, both on and off the mountains. From his pioneering climbing style, tenacity and strength in the face of adversity, legendary adventures on Mount Everest and The Ogre, to Doug's enduring passion for giving back to the mountain communities of Nepal through the charity he founded, Community Action Nepal.
You can expect a heady mix of laughter and tears as we journey through the defining moments of Doug’s life, as told through the eyes of those who knew him best, illustrated by exclusive photographs and videos from the expeditions. Throughout the evening, we will be bringing you messages from around the world, from people whose lives were touched by Doug in some way or another.
In true Doug Scott style, we will be concluding the evening with an auction of some very special items. Our auctioneer for the evening will be British mountaineer Rebecca Stephens MBE.
This event will be screened live online to allow Doug’s friends and followers around the world the opportunity to be involved.
All proceeds from the ticket sales, online donations, and the auction will go to Community Action Nepal. www.canepal.org.uk
