Launching in spring 2019, BASE Magazine is a free quarterly magazine for all adventurers, explorers, and wilderness travellers. A brand new publication with great editorial range, BASE Magazine will publish features on major expeditions, achievable micro-adventures, and geographical issues, along with profiles of key figures in the adventure sports community. The feature portfolio will also include photographic essays by some of the world’s leading outdoor photographers. Several influential, high-profile columnists will offer their own unique perspectives on different aspects of the world of adventure, and the magazine will offer further editorial depth in the form of a global adventure news bulletin, a fully independent gear department, and a wide-ranging outdoor media review. Distributed free of charge through carefully targeted channels and at major events in the outdoor calendar, BASE Magazine will become the magazine of choice for all adventurers across the English speaking world.

Outline of role

To direct and implement the overarching Advertising Strategy in the broadest sense and make the new magazine a viable commercial offering. You will organise the advertising within the magazine and create the flat plan in conjunction with the editor You will manage all commercial relationships with advertising partners, advertorial and sponsored content. Your role is to create, develop and nurture relationships with partners including networking with advertising partners to promote the magazine on other brand channels. In addition you will ensure that the magazine’s journey from the printers to distribution hubs is as seamless as possible. The role will be part time and flexible to attract the best candidates. 

About you

You will have at least two years relevant experience in the publishing industry managing advertising portfolios. Ideally, you have extensive experience in the adventure industry and existing connections with potential partners. You will be extremely well organised, commercially-minded, and capable of working to strict deadlines. You are currently looking for a part time or freelance role as part of a flexible career. Whilst being Bristol or south west based is an advantage it is not a requirement with remote working a possibility.

Required skills 

Strategy: plan and implement strategies across the brief.

Pricing: Development of realistic pricing models and media packs.

Customer acquisition and retention: devise relevant strategies, create leads, manage the sales process, close.
