Can anyone recomend basic free video editing software - windows 10 (pref 32 bit). Windows Movie Maker no longer available. Many supposedly free ones out there but turns out they arent actually free or dont work
Failing that any cheap (good value) editing package that works ok for basic editing.
Cheers

I've found lightworks good, but really unstable - crashes every hour or so, which could really start to grate.

not sure about free ones, but some flavour of sony vegas (depending on version of product you can buy this for £30 upto £200) or Adobe Premier elements (about £50 or £65 bundled with Photoshop elements) are the normally recommended options. it depends what you are trying to produce, more than one camera, how often you might actually use it.

if it's a one off, then you might almost be worth following some youtube tutorials first and then going for a free trial of one of the adobe products when you understand the basics of that program?

You could try Davinci resolve. https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/uk/products/davinciresolve it is free for the non-4k version IIRC it's relatively easy to get to grips with but has a lot of capability. I use it for grading etc but it has timeline editing abilities. Plenty of YT advice/ tutorials online. I use Adobe Premier Pro and that.

I use Cyberlink Powerdirector. It does all the basic stuff I need.

On Linux, I use OpenShot, which I am so far happy with: http://www.openshot.org/ You can read a review here: http://www.pcworld.com/article/230531/free_openshot_video_editor_is_tremend...

They have a Windows version but I have no experience of it. I would say it's definitely worth trying to see if it does what you need. Being open source, it is completely free to install and use.

I've not had much problem with Lightworks crashing. Amazing editor once you get over the initial learning "wall". Free, but last time I checked limited to certain output resolutions?

I use Cyberlink Powerdirector also.

Has loads of features, but haven't used any others except Movie Maker.
