Not my most dramatic, or best composed, photo of the year, but this is special for what it represents. Over the first lockdown, when the new weird world was a strange place, everyday I walked from home exploring my local natural world. It was such a joy to be away from the flat, where I have been working and living for so long now, and I learnt so much about my local flora and fauna.
On the edge of a golf course, that had kindly allowed folk to wander across the fairways if they were respectful of the greens, I once spotted a kestrel in a tree. Over a number of weeks, I visited regularly, and the two kestrels didn't seem to mind, if I stood quietly. One day, not long before the course re-opened, the lady of the woods just sat in this tree as I slowly approached, and we had a nice chat. Perhaps 30 feet away.

This connection with nature, and 100s of other creatures, is what has kept me going this year. Tonight I was chatting to a bunch of deer. They too, didn't seem to mind.
