Would that have helped? If none of your letters were repeats and you avoided doubles it's hard to see what you could have done differently. Comes down to luck? Anyway, I'm doing just what I shouldn't, overthinking a trivial game. It's bang, bang, bang, over, move on to more important stuff. Unless there's a GM rating up for grabs?
in this case i chose a double and a triple rather than thinking of words that would eliminate the most letters- like the solution..
Ah, when I say the first word that comes to mind I do mean the first word with unique letters. Selbstverständlich.

Not to crow (really) but I did it in twenty seconds, late at night and three sheets to the wind, without caring whether I was sure about the word (it will have been in my subconscious not so much from a knowledge of American horses or reading Cormac McCarthy - which I haven’t done - but from the Ford 1970s controversy. Look it up as it as I won’t be replying about this). Six attempts is ideal, it gives space to gamble. I’ve not failed yet despite various deliberate kamikaze approaches (and creating games within Wordle) and my not being a wordsmith. I make Wordle fun. You seem to dislike it.

I am very good at getting no letters at all in the first line. I also got a 4 in the French version today, with a starting word that included a double letter and a Z.
I couldn't see any way to rearrange the letters I had for well over an hour. For some strange reason, it was not at all obvious. I suppose because the arrangement of letters is very unusual in the English language.

How and WHY are you ever spending more than 20 minutes on Wordle? I'm almost always done in about 3 minutes, sometimes much less. Saturday's was an outlier, 20 minutes, but mostly because I wasn't concentrating as it was late at night and I was watching a film from your old colleague/boss/hero.
"I suppose because the arrangement of letters is very unusual in the English language."
What on Earth do you even mean by this? The word was "lilac". Extremely common.
I meant just what I said. That the arrangement of letters is unusual in English, not that the word lilac is rare. www.crosswordsolver.org shows that the only other five-letter words in English that end with -ac are: Anzac, bobac, carac, dirac, etaac, guiac, ileac, iliac, isiac, linac, serac, sifac, sumac, and triac. Most of these are very rare indeed, aren't they?
Anyhow, here's today's effort:

Just going through a spell of lucky first word choices. I don't usually choose a calculated 'best' opener. Rather just something that pops into my head with one or more vowels, in order to keep it fun. I'm as likely to go with 'plums' as I am 'orbit,' 'right,' or as in this case 'bream.' Sometimes it works well, more often less so...

It used to be 5 letters, but has now gone to 6. A new way of working it out, and it does hurt my brain. The scholarly bit is that the word is one that might often be used in science world, but could equally be in literary world. It basically opens it up to a much wider range of possible solutions, rather than the select list that Wordle uses. Not one to do before the morning coffee!
Seemed to be a very easy one today. There was only one possible answer after my first two (standard) words.

Yacht and build.. Two of my favourite starters.
Interesting my two starters contain all five vowels, I play in hard mode usually so have to modify line two depending on what comes up.
> Yacht and build.. Two of my favourite starters.
Is that because you think it is helpful to have a Y in your starter? If so, why? I usually go with the first two-vowel word that comes into my head. This may be why I am not doing so well, but helps to make it fun.
But surely the chances of Y, H and C being in the word are not that high?
Am I missing something here 😀
