Err, they are/were both high-achieving financiers in New York. It would be odd if they did not move in the same circles. Indeed Epstein was a client of JP Morgan bank when Staley ran the wealth management business there. 

Or, to put it another way, I meet the MD of my bank regularly. Does that make me a sex-offender?

With Epstein liking to make connections with 'people of influence', it was an opportune moment for them to become friends of sorts. I would think there's people who'd visited Epstein's from the same financial circles and other circles too, who decided he was weird and the situations they found themselves in where, and never socialised with him again, as well as those who became involved with having sex with young females. It's the people who may appear to have possibly done something wrong who make the news.
