Bright and nice and cold. Peregrine!  Only second one I’ve seen whilst with the dog, and great views as it fly straight over our heads. Loads Canada geese and malards eating grain. Then, as it warmed up, butterflies galore. Beautiful and mesmerising. Then a buzzard, followed by another and then realised there was at least ten circling high up. Pair sparrowhaks and pair kestrels enjoying the thermals. Birds of prey too high for good photos, pity coz they were tumbling    and displaying.

In reply to Doug:

Well spotted.  Least thing we need is a bout of malaria!

Kestrels doing their thing, buzzard.

Anyone know what the small brown jobbie is?

In reply to mick taylor:

I finally have a non-comedy entry.  Chilling out after some time on a buddleia tree.

In reply to wintertree:

Only got a smallish garden but have three buddleia and last year had up to eighty butteries at once. Mainly painted ladies, brilliant.

I am not sure this counts...I saw a stoat on the drive back from my walk

I went to Crowden yesterday morning and saw the Bearded Vulture. It is BIG.

At one point it was being mobbed by a buzzard which just looked tiny "I think that's a buzzard, looks like a buzzard, must be a buzzard". Of course it was a buzzard, the only doubt was because the vulture made it look so small.

I don't think bouldering or climbing at Black Tor would be a good idea at the moment (vulture's current roost), you'd probably be lynched by a mob of twitchers 😁

In reply to Michael Hood:

Years ago my brother and me went to see the eagles at Riggindale. We thought a mistake thrush was having a go at it - then realised it was a kestrel. Talking of which, this morning.....

In reply to Marmoteer:

Sure does count. They all count esp when it’s almost the only time we see them!

Cold again, but good for spiders webs

I actually didn’t have time to get zoomed in on this one, pity coz it would have been a beauty. Magical birds. Does anyone else still shed a tear when they watch ‘Kes’?

In reply to mick taylor:

I refuse to watch Kes, can't do it.

In reply to mick taylor:

Small brown jobbie could be a purple hairstreak. It's on the right leaf.

Great thread BTW!

Not quite wildlife but on this afternoon's dog walk I saw a Hawker Sea Fury. I initially suspected it was a Spitfire but it wasn't a Merlin engine sound. Unexpected pleasure!
