Representation of Muslim women and accessibility in the outdoors

As part of my masters degree in journalism with Falmouth University, myself and a fellow student have put together a short survey looking into media and brand representation of Muslim women in the outdoors, access barriers and stereotyping.

The survey should only take five minutes to complete, and is aimed at all Muslim women and those who identify as such and are based in the U.K., particularly those who either already participate in outdoor activities or sports and those who would like to.  The survey is entirely anonymous and the results will be used to evidence our university assignment. If this applies to you and you have the time, we would be grateful for your response.

If you would prefer not to answer a particular question, you can select ‘Prefer not to say’, and if you have any additional comments to make on your answers, there is a space for you to do so at the end of the survey, though it is not compulsory. Thank you for your time. If you have any questions, suggestions or comments, please email:

Just in case you haven't seen it, there is an interview with Amira of Wanderlust Women in the spring's BMC Summit mag.

There was a young Muslim woman on the TV the other day leading Susan Calman hill walking.  Channel 5 I think.

Zahrah Mahmood has a lot of interesting stuff to say: https://www.ukhillwalking.com/articles/features/surmounting_stereotypes_wit...

She's just signed up as a Berghaus ambassador too.

That was Rehna Yaseen I think, who is active on Instagram @outdoors_with_rehna I've only had a few quick interactions via insta with Rehna but she seems very friendly and might be a good contact for these researchers to snowball their sample group of outdoorsy women of Muslim heritage.
