In today's Guardian Country diary Jim Perrin writes " Mrs Weston - Auntie Vi to generations of climbers..."

I have never heard of her referred to as anything other than Mrs Weston, what do others remember?

In reply to Pedro50:

Both. But always Mrs Weston from me!

In reply to Pedro50:

I remember Ma Weston, Mrs Weston and Auntie Vi, in that order.

Fair enough, just doesn't fit my picture of her!

In reply to Pedro50:

Ma Weston for me.  What I remember most is chewing on the tea leaves when you bought a pot of tea.

In reply to Gaston Rubberpants:

What I recall is that the teapot was so large that it was impossible to pour one-handed after a hard day's climbing. That and the curiously-coloured beans on toast.

In reply to Pedro50:

Overpriced, poor quality food and nasty tea are my main memories...

Always Ma Weston for me.  But then I'm only looking back 30 or so years.

In reply to Pedro50:

Ma Weston for me as well.

In reply to Pedro50:

mrs Weston to me. Fond memories of her giving me a bag of cakes (too stale to sell, but fine really) for my hitch hike home in early or mid 80s.

In reply to Pedro50:

Mrs Weston for me. I still go to the tea rooms but it’s not the same. Also call in at the church yard to pay my respects.

In reply to Frank the Husky:

The whole round of toast crap.

If a round of sandwiches is two slices of bread, why is a round of toast one.

But for everyone who's said Ma Weston or Auntie Vi etc, what name did you use to say hello to her, face to face?

 Dave Garnett 13 Jul 2022
In reply to jon:

Never!

In reply to Pedro50:

Always known as Ma Weston's but addressed as Mrs Weston

A more interesting question: where did the seemingly never ending supply of young women come from? Was it actually a front for people trafficking?

 Babika 14 Jul 2022
In reply to jon:

As with many people I never used a name when talking to her or ordering tea! It was more a case of "we're off to Ma Westons now" to mates on the cliff or campsite.
