The wild strawberries in the quarry near home are really tasty now, it's nice to be able to pick dessert on the go!

What else is good foraging just now?

Maccie D’s. Clearly the chavs stomachs have shrunk since lockdown began, and there’s some very tasty burger leftovers in the litter.

Chicken of the woods are out, elderflower obviously, still plenty of hogweed shoots (flowers aren’t out here but may be elsewhere), it’s warm in the rockpools so good seaweeding, burdock, sea radish, sea kale, umm... I’m sure there’s loads more obvious things. It’s a good time of year.

In reply to Lemony:

I found a chicken of the wood yesterday, actually - but it was already hard and woody.

I'm also a little wary of them when they're growing on a fallen trunk I can't identify, as I believe they can become poisonous if they grow on Yew wood.

Burdock looks worth a shot, I've never tried it.

Ground Elder is out now,and is an edible plant in the Carrot family. As with any plants in the Carrot family, you need to be 100% positive of identification. If you are near the coast,Sea Campion is out now,and is edible.
