Are the best Christmas snack.

Change my mind.

Depends on my mood.  Mostly I'd agree.  But for variety I do like twiglets.  Or the little teeny savoury biscuit things.

That's assuming we are sticking to savoury only?

Also do the stick pretzels count?  I like those.

Bugles. Discovered them in Spain but now you can get them here. Basically can't stop eating them once I've started.

I have some salt and vinegar flavoured ones in at the moment, they are a bit too moreish!

I don’t like the varnish on pretzels...and stripped they’d be equally shit. It’s almost impossible to think of an improvement

The varnish (ie Maillard reaction) is by far the best bit!

Please explain this to me, I have often wondered how such an effect is achieved?

Never had these. Where can one obtain them?

That's interesting. Where from?

Hmm, good question. I think probably Morrisons.

Be fair: in Num Num's house, it's probably

I think I've seen them in most supermarkets but definitely Asda which is where we usually shop. They are a Walkers brand.

Washing them with Sodium Carbonate or Sodium Hydroxide (i.e. lye-wash) before baking is what does it.

Mini pretzels?  Yuk.  I guess they’re marginally preferable to large ones.

I never liked them before- I’m even less keen on them now I know that!

No, you're welcome to 'em.

Have you tried salted caramel pretzels? Worthy contender for Christmas snacks.

Managed to track these down - they're amazing!

We have also just got some Christmas tree shaped ones which are cream cheese and chive flavour! So many good options!

I can't think of any snack more boring than pretzels. Just flour and water with some salt and probably sugar. Airlines like to serve them as snacks, because they must be about the cheapest thing in the world to produce - making even salted peanuts look like an exotic luxury.

For Xmas??!!

Yeah, I wouldn't eat them the rest of the year. Are you mad? They are purely a festive treat, and this gives them their value.

In reply to bouldery bits:

Never liked 'em but the full sized ones are great. Can't bloomin' get them though (reliably)
