There is so much literally falling down around their ears that the small matter of  an additional £800 million for HS2 just gets lost in the general noise. The effing thing will never run, but £100 billion will find its way into contractors and consultants pockets before we finally give the project up.

They ought to use covid as the good excuse to cancel the damn thing, use the money for something like social care.

Round here on the edge of Coventry, the numbers of people standing around in high viz in case a barrier needs moving or watching trees being felled is enormous. I think the impact of Covid on the economy and unemployment levels is such that the Government dare not cancel HS2 and see unemployment rise even more.
