How's everyone doing?

We were doing OK until today, working on the garden, lots cooking, family time and lots of reading progress from the homeschooling.

Today however my 6 year old has come down with a nasty cough and thrown up violently. And then my sister in law has been admitted to Lancaster hospital following breathing difficulties which we think is related to an auto immune disease and stress and anxiety, not corvid 19, however they have put her on the covid 19 ward without testing her 1st. She's been well shielded for the last month.

Mrs Weasel is actually pulling her hair out with stress. F*ck f*ck f*ck!

How's everyone else's doing then?

Hopefully most are good but if you want to vent owt then feel free to use this thread.

Mr Weasel, I'm not going to rant and moan on your thread because you are going through much worse shit than I am.

Concentrate on the good things, look after your child and give the Mrs plenty of hugs. Unfortunately your sister in law is now in the system and you won't even be able to visit her so it's big shoulders time for your family.

People will tell you it's okay to be vulnerable but it isn't, your wife needs her rock and your child needs their super hero who can do anything.

I hope it all works out for you.

Cheers buddy. My Mrs hasn't left the house in three weeks.

We're all healthy though. We're just moving into allergy season now  here which is making us all hypochondriacs. I was coughing last night but I'd been for a late night run.

It’s altogether too fekin stressful.  I’ve broke down into tears plenty of times: that woman nurse in Wigan who had that older guy crash into her car and then he died a few days later just did me in.  All good here, but whilst I’m not a health worker, I doin useful shit which is draining.  My friends and colleagues in public health  and hospital trust, whom I deal with daily, are dealing with heavy duty shit none stop. And Wigan ain’t that bad relatively speaking.

That's what she did, and it worked well. It all went to pot when something was sold out. I assumed I was just in the wrong place and still scoured the store looking for the item. She seemed happy with what I'd bought though. That's the mainthing.

Also, you can leave the phone in your pocket and bin or burn the paper when you get home.  This saves you from having to obsessively clean your phone with soapy water and risk damaging it.

Leicestershire.

Daughter is off work from now, Son in law is a Postie. So he has to be careful. She was crying the other night whilst facetiming and it hit my Missus hard. As you can imagine they are very close and we have no other relatives, they just want to be sorting all the baby stuff out together. It's hard for them.

Missus hasn't left the house in 3 weeks and I only work with a small team, and mostly outside, so should be ok. Her blood count is a concern, as she is out of breath after doing very little. An Iron infusion is the answer (which she has at regular intervals) but it's too risky to go to the hospital ATM. I hate to think of the outcome if my Wife gets it.

Big bait = big fish.  When I used to go bassing off my boat I'd always use live mackerel or scad weighing between 10oz and 1lb when livebaiting, and CD22 magnums when trolling. They're fair game to anything weighing more than 5lb, a bass will happily take a mackerel too big to eat and sit there with the back half poking out its gob until it's digested the front half - I've seen it firsthand when I fed the bass at my local aquarium.

I have a memory of shopping with my dad when I was little and he was very good at looking for the price labels were things should be that were sold out.. Then he would look at the back of the shelf and pull the last one out.

That's kids for you! My 4yo had a couple of episodes of being violently sick a few weeks ago, involving a change of nightie and bedding and a late night bath to clean her up. Couple of hours later and she was happily eating rice cakes again as if nothing had happened! No idea what caused it.

Great post - thanks - I needed that

I'm in a flat in South Korea (stable infection rates for now, no lockdown, no shortages). But I'm under a short-term visitor visa here and have to come home eventually e.g. early summer for that and other reasons, travelling and flying don't look at all good for the moment, our air tickets are little use because of no flights...... uncertainty and a bit of anxiety. But I do realize zillions of others are far worse off than me

Sister in law is doing better today, little Weasel still has cough, but no worse and is happy.

My next task is to try to support a lad with aspbergers who I used to support and have a good rapport with. He got moved to sheltered accommodation, but the support staff have stopped going in and most of the other residents have been rehoused when this started. They are going to rehouse him now and told him just to pack essentials so I'm going to call him and try to help him do this.

These can be difficult times for those of us who are autistic.  I’m quite lucky that as a teacher I already have a term time routine and a school holidays routine so I’m coping well.

Having to move is hard.  Deciding what essential means might be a stumbling point.  Has he had pictures of where he is going?  He could look on streetview.

OP Baron Weasel 08 Apr 2020
In reply to marsbar:

He's doing really well all things considered. I have taken him some cardboard boxes and a spare face mask and made sure he has the essentials then desirables then general stuff. Apparently some of the other residents have been moved with only 1 hour notice and the care company has been lying about what support they have been providing. Hopefully I've built some karma points with the universe.

Council website was rubbish - Wigan council homepage has an online for self isolation issues. I emailed leceister the council and told them they shud do similar and make it easier for people to request help (they do seem good at mobilising volunteers to do the stuff tho).

Scary, but there is some school of thought that it is the safest place.

Ive worked ITU through H1N1 and SARS and generally equipment and procedure is best there.

Conversely in the community, you do not know what you are going into with no diagnosis and less protectivePPE.

our local DN’s have several positives plus 1 known in our team.

Good luck to her all the same.

No, I wouldn’t either. ITU is a very clinical place and a lot of students we had would pass out after a few minutes. After a few days/weeks it becomes second nature to be there, same as anything really. Hopefully she will have a good mentor. Follow and copy them in their movements and procedures and she will be as safe as is possible

Colleagues self isolating started to get tested earlier this week. Unsurprisingly, positive results coming back, thankfully no one is in Serious serious condition.

Couple of jobs today gave pause though...First one was the first Covid patient I've had who was both younger than me and also unlikely to get much older. My last job I think will stick with me for a while; bloke in his 90's, married for over 70 years and lost his wife to CV19 a couple of days ago and now he's struggling to breath, low oxygen sats and all the classic signs that he's close on the heels of his Mrs. He won't get to bury his beloved wife and he's had to grieve utterly alone. Physically isolated by CV19 and unable to use the phone to talk to his extended family due to his deafness. The poor man was bereft, lost, alone and bewildered. I held his hand on the way into A&E. I don't know if this was because he wanted me to or if I needed to because there wasn't anything else I could do.

Please don’t confuse me as front line, I wouldn’t want credit for the sacrifices of others. But yeah, I’ve shut my kids and family off, including my mum, as much as possible and to hear of what’s happening elsewhere is maddening.

It is infuriating. It speaks to a failure of drumming home the seriousness early and hard enough.

To the OP, we're getting on well and fortunate that we're both key workers (me, National Grid and her, local council) who can both work from home, so not only are our jobs guaranteed for the time being but our safety as well. We've paid a few tradespeople friends of ours up front for work to be done whenever restrictions are relaxed to try and share the wealth a bit.

Sadly, I got news that a friend of mine has killed himself whilst in lockdown. He was in touch with friends and organising online hangouts only a few days ago so all of our heads are spinning. We may never know why. After a good cry, I'm trying to be thankful for what I've got and with more determination to reach out to friends close and long lost over the coming months. The virus is only one aspect of this.

Hope everyone is doing well but, if you're not, that's totally understandable in the circumstances - please talk to someone. Talk to me if you want.

Some sort of sample has been tested and come back negative, presumably it's had to go to a lab. We're just hoping that she hasn't picked it up while on the ward.

Little Weasel is still coughing but not quite as bad.
