Orchids have a complex life cycle. They have a relationship with soil fungi and can have an erratic season. On established sites they can appear in their hundreds and then nothing for the next ten years. They will show up in road verges but be impossible to propagate in the field next door
They are very fussy about soil chemistry and each species has different requirements. Some, like bee orchid, will disappear as a site becomes established. Others will only appear after a hundred years of neglect.
I'm not saying you can't you understand.
