Looks like a tw*tplate so it's probably supposed to spell something .

L464 KZM

L444 KZM

L183 KZM

Edit: Or is it KLM?

Do you have a short video clip?  Much easier to figure out from those.

Or you could try my letters and all 1,000 numbers in here...  https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/

Got a full size file you can send me? I can try running it through lightroom and see if I can get it a bit clearer...

??04 KL? (the 4 might be a 6, the L might be a Z)

Looks like one of these https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&biw=1920&bih=938&a...

I ran the numbers and DVLA has no record of L464 KZM, L444 KZM, L183 KZM, L464 KLM, or L183 KLM. It does find L444 KLM, though - it is a blue Audi

Edit, DVLA website: https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-tax

Bit of an extreme way to go about asking for a first date, isn't it?

Tempting but unless it’s been lowered, the front splitter looks more like a recentish BMW 3-Series than a Q2.  As does the way the headlights taper towards a rear point.

I’ve also tried all permutations of L1[0/8][4/6]  K[L/Z]M

Think it looks like a post-2000 vehicle, which makes the plate less likely to be "letter-then-3-digits' and more likely to conform to an 'AA01 AAA' format, in which case I'm pretty sure that the numbers are 64 (or possibly 14) for that BMW style. Still some chance it's a personalized plate, which still has to fit one of the UK numbering schemes, just not the current one, but balance of probability says it isn't.

You could be right.  I had been thinking custom plate.

L?[0/6][5/6] [F/K][L/Z]M

Edit: LL65 KZM is a blue Mazda 2 which has tapering headlights but again the front splitter looks too low for the Mazda.

I’m not convinced though - the spacing of characters 1 and 2 makes it look like a vanity plate to me, but that could just be me reading too much into it.

Edit: Nothing fits visually for character 2 - what would be a vertical line that far right? Only a ‘J’ or a ‘1’ in a vanity plate.

LG64 KZM

Black BMW - not sure those letters match. I concur on BMW 3 series or older 5 series ? Or does it have some sort of body kit on.

Do we get the back story ?

Or try a free on line analyser ?

https://app.platerecognizer.com/view/4mZqG4HY1564433978.93/?minimal

says ET44 FJNE - so its not great ... But might give more hints.

According to a Parts Finder that searches by Reg No, that would be a BMW X5 2014 3.0 Diesel.

In reply to FactorXXX:

That looks very likely - accounts for the taller nostrils and big mirrors - https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&biw=1920&bih=938&a...:

I think I might have cracked it. Pause for now!!!

Not sure its an X5. Looks more like a 3series to me.

Second and last letters are most suspect.

Tend to agree with you, but I think it's pme that you need to be telling as I believe he is gathering up a lynch mob as we speak...

L[J/T][0/6][4/5/6] [F/K][L/Z][A/M]

”06” seems very unlikely due to age vs modern styling.

In reply to purplemonkeyelephant:

Pretty sure it's not an X5. 66 plate, dark paint, BMW 2-Series would be my best guess having had a second look at the picture. Can't do much with the letters that others haven't already suggested. Sub 3yo car is quite likely to still be near where it was registered so that could help with the first letter at least.

If it's a police matter that's probably enough with a better database tool to narrow it down to a small handful of possibles.

In reply to purplemonkeyelephant:

Just seen this and I see you may have it already. My comment is more general and aimed at those saying "crap vanity plate" and also those saying "it's too modern for such and such"

Some people retain an old registration that might not look like an obvious vanity plate but perhaps simply has a sequence of letters that match their initials. I notice plenty of these. So there is no definite reason to rule out something like L485 KJM or whatever.

 Tom Valentine 30 Jul 2019
In reply to Blue Straggler:

Those were my first thoughts and it seems even more likely given the probable type and colour of the car.

On second viewing maybe it's not electric purple.........

Anyway, I'm sure if we study long and hard enough the last three letters will become JRM.

In reply to dunc56:

Thanks everyone for your help. I'm currently around 95% sure I've got the plate and about 5% sure it's another variation. It was actually your tip Dunc that helped me figure it out. Even though the analyser was chucking out random plates it couldn't possibly be, it suggested one letter which let the whole thing be decoded.

In terms of backstory I can't really say too much, but as I'm sure you've guessed, this car was involved in a crime and we are trying to track it down.

For safety reasons I'll probably request this thread deleted later, but I wanted to thank everyone for their help, without which we wouldn't have made some positive steps. So cheers all
