Although yesterday saw thousands pink feet late afternoon flying over Lancashire flatlands.

We saw a field *full* of geese near Ormskirk yesterday, mid morning. Couldn't see what colour their feet were though.

Seen quite a few flying over down here in recent weeks.

Why do they "honk" in flight?

Perhaps they're novice fliers. My first time in an aeroplane I honked all over the seat in front.

Hundreds flew over me, out running on Thursday evening north of Nottingham, all heading NW.

Because they can

In reply to David Riley:

One theory is: so they can stay close together by knowing where each other is. Another is to encourage the leaders to fly faster (not sure I’m a fan of this theory though).

From the leader's perspective...

If they've got enough "spare" to be able to honk then I'm not going fast enough 😁
