The fawns went through a gap in the hedge into the sun and ate some rose hips

Then an excellent singing robin and a sulky looking female Reed bunting. Then off to work.

Cycling home through Green Park this evening, came across a small muntjac deer, just standing on the cycle path. Didn't manage to get my phone out before it casually sauntered off into the bushes...

A munty buck will inflict serious damage on a dog if cornered; they fight like hell & their canines are like razors. Cracking little deer though, even if they are an ecological nightmare. Good job they are delicious!

Did u see my other post: roe hind chased my springer- quite funny really, the deer was running with it’s snout to the ground trying to ram my dogs belly, which it did a few times. Defo had a young nearby. Oh, my mate says it’s tasty, quite fancy some coz I love venison.

edit: how old do you reckon that buck is?

Chasing is all well & good, but if they get very protective (or the dog gets too close!), they’ll slash out with their front feet. The hooves can be like razors & will inflict real damage to a dog.

As for ageing, I’ll admit it’s not something I’m very good at, especially from photos. He’s got a reasonable head on him though.
The link below has got some good info on it if you fancy having an estimate.
