Hi,

I have just moved to South Gloucestershire and looking for any recommendations on nice circular walks in the area (happy to drive about an hour).

Thanks

Places that are generally nice to potter around for a couple of hours - Blaise Castle, Frome Valley (Snuff Mills), The Downs in Clifton, Ashton Court estate, anywhere in the Mendips (Cheddar Gorge, Blagdon Lake or Chew Valley Lake, etc.).

The Strawberry Line is great (http://www.thestrawberryline.org.uk/). I've not the smaller sections but I got the train to Yatton and walked to Cheddar. That was a good, long jaunt.

Head to the mendips some nice circular walks there or head over to Tintern Abbey and do a circular walk including devils pulpit or go the opposite way up to the malverns.

I use the free version of Viewranger to see routes people have uploaded to get an idea of where to walk

Wavering Down There is a lovely circular walk, described as the jewel in the crown of Mendip walks taking in Crook Peak and Wavering Down. You can start either at the village of Cross on the A38 or nearby Compton Bishop. It's about 3 miles long and has some outstanding views.

Maybe pushing it a bit and perhaps stating the obvious, but depending where you live in South Gloucestershire and how fast you drive then the Brecon Beacons might be an option.
In particular, the Neuadd Horseshoe is a great little walk.

Or do the black mountains not as busy and you can park at Mynydd Du Car Park and do a circular past the reservoir up to waun fach and back down through the forest , i live in south Bristol and can get there in about 75 minutes depending on time of day
