Ogwen scrambles

Off to stay in the Ogwen valley next week for a few days and I've realised the last scramble I did was last September. So I'm thinking launching straight back into a Grade 3 (dolmen ridge, Cneifon arete) is probably irresponsible at best and plain stupid at worst.

So question is can anybody recommend a decent grade 2 in the valley please? Thinking I might do the Atlantic ridge on Carnedd Y Filiast as that's the last route I did back in September but would be keen to hear any other suggestions?

Sorry OP not my specialist area so no suggestions from me.

Scrambling has been quite a popular subject on the forums recently.  You may get answers which entirely miss the brief, like rock climbs in Scotland.

Pass the popcorn?

The hardest part of Cneifon arete is the first part. If you manage that bit, you should be able to do the rest without any problems.

Thanks, that's good to know, I'll probably have a crack at it later in the week, just find I need a few easier routes to get myself back into things.

Usually have 4 weeks May/early June around the west of Scotland but for obvious reasons didn't happen so a bit out of practice

East Ridge of Y Garn would fit your criteria and is great

Tryfan north ridge then bristly ridge,  come down y crybin, good day out gets you used to moving over rock but nothing to challenging and you have the bonus of checking out your two grade 3 s as you go by to get inspired.

Idwal Staircase is a good option at grade 2, it has two contrasting sections, the upper part you can make as easy or hard as you like, on fantastic rock. We did it last week and the 'waterfall' section was easy and enjoyable. Idwal Staircase/Continuation (Grade-3)

Thanks, I've done that day a fair few times now so looking for something different, although maybe doing it by one of the east face scrambles on Tryfan instead of the north ridge would be an option, I'll have a look.

The East Ridge of Y Garn is decent although short lived. I linked it up with the Atlantic Ridge today for a longer day out, avoiding the crowds.

Idwal Buttress / North West Face Route would be my choice.

Also Bastow Buttress

Good luck with the weather next week!

Any of the grade twos from the white book are pretty good. My current work rotation for client friendly grade twos seems to consist of Bastow Buttress, Nor Nor Grooves, Idwal Buttress and Continuation and Seniors Ridge Direct. I wouldn't bother with Idwal Stream... who wants to climb slimy waterfall! Disgusting! The Idwal scrambles have the benefit of not having to walk all the way up the Heather Terrace to get started too.

Idwal buttress is also easily connected to the Cneifon Arete if you feel like your moving well and want to carry on scrambling, or you can finish up the easy top section of Seniors Ridge to get up high.

I've done that one last year, it's good but over all too soon I found (just as it was getting interesting sadly). Thanks for the suggestion, it's definitely a good one for a weekend if you want something quiet.
