Loch Quoich landslide road closure

Be aware that the road alongside the north side of Loch Quoich giving access to Gleouraich, Gairich and other nearby hills is closed indefinitely about 3k before the dam at the east end of the loch.  This is due to a massive landslide which occurred  last November (details here - https://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/news/inverness/1624518/quoich-landslip...)

The size of the landslide and the ongoing instability of the hillside means that walkers are categorically asked not to try to walk around it, effectively meaning (as we found out today) that there is no access from the road to the hills around the loch.  According to an estate worker this news has not been widely posted in hillwalking circles so please make it known if you are on other websites or news groups.

There is no adequate signage apart from a "road closed ahead" sign and ultimately a padlocked gate.  The small local community have escorted access but on-one else can get in.  For their sake please don't try to come in this way.

Sorry to hear you were caught out by this. There has been a thread on here and also one on WalkHighlands:

Rumoured to be reopened around Easter, but who knows....

Thanks for highlighting those!  We got on the hill elsewhere.  Just a pity there's not snow.

seem reasonably confident that it'll be open by 18th April, and if there's a delay you'd hope that they'd be among the first to be told!

Anyone have an update? I’ve looked but can’t find any meaningful recent information.

In reply to SimonCRMC:

I was a mile from the landslide when it happened. The best bet is to get hold of the stalker John Cameron who lives just down the glen. Sure his contact details are online somewhere.

You mean in addition to what the linked walkhighlands thread says?

Just wondering if there is any further updates on the road opening for the Easter weekend?

In reply to SimonCRMC:

Hi all,

My brother spoke with the Glen Kingie stalker last night who lives in the last house before the closure (except Kingie Lodge... the holiday let). He said that while the road won't be open in time for the Easter weekend it won't be as long as those above threads suggest. He said Easter was the aim but they will miss it. So presumably it won't be closed a lot longer.

According to Amanda Henderson who is leading the project team carrying out the repairs. There will be a passable road opened on Thursday 18th. She says robust vehicles can pass. I’m guessing she means no Ferrari’s and lambo’s

Have been up the Glen today as far as the gate across the road, would love it be open this week but locals implied its months away from fully opening!!! Will try to go back up again later in the week!

We are going up on Friday. Hoping to stay the weekend at the loch. We go up every year in April for a memorial weekends fishing to celebrate the life of a dear friend who passed away 9 years ago. He loved the place.

Lets hope Amanda Henderson is right with her prediction.

Fingers crossed! Let us know how you get on.

Spare a thought for the stalker who lives past the closure (Donald). The week the landslide happened he'd drive up to the closure on the Knoydart side, get out of his truck, they'd pick him up with a chopper, carry him 40m over the slide and put him down to borrow a different truck and off he'd go! He was regularly seen tramping across the slide too much to the project management teams dismay!

John (the stalker on the Kingie estate) expected the road to be open again within the week!!

Well after weeks of wondering if we would get to loch Quioch or not. We did it !!

Very right road through but really impressive repair to the road. You don’t realise just how big the land slide was until you see it for yourself.

Well done to highland Council
