I'm planning on wondering up Haystacks from Gatesgarth farm this weekend and the weather is forecasting biblical rain again!

I will be descending via the 'scrambley' section on my way to high stile back down into Buttermere.

I have never been up there before so I'm wondering if the craggy section will pose any immediate dangers descending when wet, or can I veer of prior to this section to avoid it at all?

I think you'll find dropping off to the Scarth gap fine. It's a little techy but nothing dramatic. A little polished but I would be happy to do it in the wet.

If you're really worried, drop South from the summit and contour round to Scarth Gap.

Have a great day out!!

It's not that bad.  Isn't too polished from what I can recall.
