I have the delight of a couple of days in Dublin in May doing some examining so thought I'd tack on a few days at the beginning or end to visit the Wicklows. I've done plenty of walking in the Reeks, but never walked over on the east. Are there any particularly recommended routes esp. up Lugnaquilla, or other routes, and where would be a good place to stay for a few days? I'll hire a car in Dublin.

Many thanks! Looking forward to it as will be first trip to Ireland for a decade, and first since I got my Irish citizenship

In reply to Welsh Kate:

I walked up from Glenmalore, a decent car park at the start but was still very quiet. This route is fine but the routes up the other side of Lugnaquilla cross a military firing range, I think you can check any activity online but good to be aware.

We stayed in Glendalough which was great, some nice history and good walking, a decent pub as well.

Enjoy
